The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) yesterday announced that the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Hongkong has launched its internet-based job-hunting search engine to help Filipino workers look for jobs that match their skills.
Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said “this is part of our continuing efforts to give accessible, efficient and effective services to our clients, especially, household service workers (HSW), in line with the 22-point labor and employment agenda of President Benigno S. Aquino III”.
She said this program is one of DOLE’s employment strategies that focuses on systematic employment opportunity measures and facilitation of job opportunities for our workers abroad.
“This is a first step in the Department’s continuing agenda to bring the much-needed government services closer to our people, particularly to our overseas foreign workers (OFW),” the labor chief said.
“Very soon all POLOs all over the world will launch a similar on-line job mapping site,” Baldoz said.
Philippine Labor Attaché to Hong Kong Romulo V. Salud, in his report to Secretary Baldoz said Filipino HSWs may access the website, www.polohkjobseeker.org, an internet-based profile posting mechanism for job hunting, which is similar to jobstreet.com, jobsDB.com and asiaexpat.com.
The on-line registration is free of charge with an assurance that the information will be provided only to accredited placement agencies in POLO-Hong Kong.
“With the site, HSWs who are still employed, those who have finished their contracts, as well as those whose contracts were prematurely terminated can post their respective information in the internet, which will be screened and approved by the POLO,” he said.
“The system can only be used while the OFW or applicant still has a valid visa to stay in Hongkong,” Salud added that information of screened applicants will only be made available to accredited Hongkong employment agencies.
He said the agencies will contact the HSWs once they already have prospected employers for them.
