Former OFW beheads own mother in Iloilo

A former overseas Filipino worker beheaded his own mother while suffering a nervous breakdown in Iloilo province, a radio report said Thursday.

The incident occurred in Barangay Bonbon in Lambunao town in Iloilo, Bombo Radyo reported.

Barangay chairman Rolando Araceli was quoted in the report as saying the suspect, whose name his relatives withheld, attacked his mother Erlinda Liderato, 65.

He described the suspect as kind and obedient before the breakdown, adding the suspect even worked abroad.

Liderato's body was found outside her house, with the severed head placed on top of it.

An initial investigation showed that before Liderato's remains were found, the suspect hacked her on the shoulder but she managed to get out of the house to call for help.

When the suspect's sister arrived later, she saw blood on the suspect's short pants and called local barangay officials for help.

The suspect was confined in his hut and authorities are making arrangements to bring him to a mental hospital.
